- I was born in 1969 in the United States to a retired United States Air Force veteran of World War II and spent my early childhood years moving around the United States. My father died when I was very young and my mother remarried and we settled in the west Texas city of El Paso. My first schooling was in Mexico and my first schooled language was Spanish. Starting in middle school I began writing essays to earn the prize money. Life offered me the opportunity to serve in the United States Army following attendance at a university in California, to work in a variety of jobs as diverse as being a loan officer to managing a Starbucks store, and to meet the girl of my dreams. Ultimately I entered law enforcement, a career which I love and look forward to every work day. My beloved wife gave birth to the greatest daughter in the world, who is now nearly 9 years old. In 2008 I was diagnosed with an incurable cancer and underwent the most intensive chemotherapy treatments currently being used. Currently in remission, I was encouraged by followers of a blog I kept during the time of my treatment to continue blogging for the benefit of others - and so it is that I started lifes90percent.com.
